Definition:
The passage of parasitic worms through the stools, associated with various symptoms, is known as worm infestation.
Causes:
- Various unhygienic habits like intake of unclean food items.
- Poor hygienic habits, especially after defecation.
- Irregular diet.
Symptoms:
- Pain in the abdomen, along with indigestion.
- Lack of appetite. Nausea and vomiting with either diarrhea or dysentery.
- Severe itching in the anal region, especially at night.
- Severe infection, associated with fever and weakness.
Do's & Don’t:
- Avoid excessive intake of sweet foods and jaggery.
- Include bitter foods (like bitter gourd, pointed gourd, mustard, etc.) in regular diet.
Suggestions:
- Powdered Acorus calamus (Vekhanda) with honey in a 1-gm dosage, thrice, daily.
- A decoction or infusion of the seeds of Embelia ribes (Vidanga) in a 30-ml dosage, thrice, daily.
- Fresh juice of margosa leaves or betel leaves in a 30-ml dosage, twice, daily.
Herbs Can Be Used:
- A decoction of papaya leaves in a 30-ml dosage, twice, daily.
- An infusion of pumpkin seeds in a 30-ml dosage, twice, daily.
- Oil extracted from the herb wormwood, mixed with olive oil, in a 30-ml dosage, daily. Juice of Vasaka leaves in a 30-ml dosage, twice, for three days.
