Worm Infestation

Definition:

The passage of parasitic worms through the stools, associated with various symptoms, is known as worm infestation.

Causes:

  • Various unhygienic habits like intake of unclean food items.
  • Poor hygienic habits, especially after defecation.
  • Irregular diet.

Symptoms:


  • Pain in the abdomen, along with indigestion.
  • Lack of appetite. Nausea and vomiting with either diarrhea or dysentery.
  • Severe itching in the anal region, especially at night.
  • Severe infection, associated with fever and weakness.

Do's & Don’t:


  • Avoid excessive intake of sweet foods and jaggery.
  • Include bitter foods (like bitter gourd, pointed gourd, mustard, etc.) in regular diet.

Suggestions:


  • Powdered Acorus calamus (Vekhanda) with honey in a 1-gm dosage, thrice, daily.
  • A decoction or infusion of the seeds of Embelia ribes (Vidanga) in a 30-ml dosage, thrice, daily.
  • Fresh juice of margosa leaves or betel leaves in a 30-ml dosage, twice, daily.

Herbs Can Be Used:


  • A decoction of papaya leaves in a 30-ml dosage, twice, daily.
  • An infusion of pumpkin seeds in a 30-ml dosage, twice, daily.
  • Oil extracted from the herb wormwood, mixed with olive oil, in a 30-ml dosage, daily. Juice of Vasaka leaves in a 30-ml dosage, twice, for three days.
