Prostate

Introduction of the Prostate Gland

The prostate is a gland of the males and is considered under the reproductive system. The , medically, is a compound tubuloalveolar exocrine gland that is categorized under the male mammalian reproductive system.

The shape of the prostate gland is like a walnut and it measures about 1.2 inches across. The urethra (a tube that carries semen and urine) runs through the prostate gland. It is therefore, any alteration in anatomy of the prostate gland directly affects to the urination or the frequency of the maturation.

Structure of the Prostate Gland

For the sake of studying it, the gland has been divided in four zones; peripheral zone, central zone, transition zone and anterior fibro-muscular zone. However, for gross anatomy, the gland has been divided into four lobes namely; anterior lobe (or isthmus), posterior lobe, lateral lobes and median lobe (also known as middle lobe).

Functions of the Prostate Gland

The main function of the prostate gland is storing and secreting a clear but slightly alkaline (pH about 7.29) fluid that is forms 10-30% of the volume of the seminal fluid, which combines spermatozoa and makes the semen. The rest of the seminal fluid is manufactured by two seminal vesicles. The seminal fluid has alkalinity and probably this feature is gifted to neutralize the acidic environment that is present in the vaginal tract. This protects and prolongs the lifespan of the sperm into the vaginal tract making all fair chances to fertilization. The prostate gland also comprises some smooth muscles, which help to expel the semen during ejaculation once the orgasm has reached.

Prostate Gland’s Secretions

The secretions secreted by the prostate glands vary from person to person but they are normally composed of simple sugars and they are often basic in nature. In a normal human prostatic secretion, the protein content is generally lesser than 1%. However, it includes proteolytic enzymes, acid phosphatase and a special prostate-specific antigen and medical science agrees that prostate secretions also contain some important elements such as zinc.

Prostate gland requires male hormones (known as androgens) to perform its tasks properly. Androgens are responsible for masculine characters offering manhood. The main male hormone is testosterone that is produced mainly by the testicles. Nevertheless, some of the male hormones, however in small quantities, are produced by adrenal glands too. It is dihydrotestosterone that regulates the prostate glands and its secretion.

Disorder of the Prostate Glands

There are many health ailments that involve the prostate gland one or the other way. Prostatitis is the condition wherein the gland becomes inflamed due to some reason. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is another known condition wherein it becomes so large that it is very difficult to pass the urine and this condition affects old persons. Prostate cancer is malignant condition that generally develops in older men. The examination of the prostate gland can be done by rectal examination.

Role in sex

Many health experts believe that the gland can be considered as ‘G Spot’ for the men as many men are able to achieve orgasm just because they get stimulation by the gland. It is therefore, sexual play also involves playing with prostate gland by palpating it.

Menopause

Menopause can be defined as absence of menstrual periods for about one year. Menopause simply means not having menstrual cycle that the woman had since adolescence. After certain age, the ovulation stops and hence, the menstrual cycles cease. In simple words, menopause is the period in a woman’s life when her ovaries stop functioning for reproduction. The ovaries, female gonad are pair of reproductive glands in every normal woman.

However, there are many disputes about exact definition of the menopause. One of those confusions is there are many stages of the natural menopause process but authentically, natural menopause is the transition between two important phrases; perimenopause and postmenopause. Whatever the definition we adopt, menopause is the ceasing of the menses or menstrual flow that every woman achieves one or the other stage of her life (generally at the age of 50-53 years).

If we look at the path physiology of the menopause, the ovarian supply of follicles and eggs will decline sharply once the women reach their menopauses. If occurs naturally, it cannot be considered as medical illness but it is a natural biological process. Though, there are many mental and physical symptoms such as disturbed sleep, lack of energy and interest in daily activities, sadness, lethargy, headache and abdominal cramps are common in a woman who is about to attend or has recently attended her menopause.

In the body, there are various hormones and they are the hormonal changes that cause menopause but mistaken beliefs about the condition are women will lose her sexual interests and sex drive will be zero. It could be true but not wholly. There is markedly loss in sexual urges since the female hormone responsible for sexual arouse are drastically down in their levels but then too, sex drive in women who attended menopause is never zero.

Menopause has nothing to do that can bring down the sexuality or femininity. In fact, for many women, it is the freedom from being pregnant and getting those hot flushes that used to make her down and dull. Menopause is normal and physiological but then too, if there are other symptoms in severity, the woman should see her doctor for them. This is because in many gynecological conditions where the menstrual flow stops but the reason could be different than menopause.

There is no such diagnosing factor that can label the woman with menopause but age and ceased menstrual flow for longer period can be identical factors for the menopause. There is no treatment required since menopause is not a disease. However, you can go for some pills and natural therapies that can give you symptomatic relief.

Body detoxifying treatment, natural and/or herbal supplements, acupressure and Yoga and Pranayama have markedly improved menopausal symptoms without any side or harmful effects. Some of the naturopaths believe that acupressure and reflexology play important role in getting relief from menopausal symptoms. Low dose antidepressants, hormonal therapy, selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) etc are also prescribed worldwide for menopausal symptoms.

One should keep hygiene at the private organs and should check out for the vaginal dryness, one of the leading causes for vaginal problems. Body cleansing programs may help overcoming such problems.

Cellulite Pills

Cellulite can be defined as a series of ripples of fat cells and subcutaneous connective tissue that lie just beneath the skin. The condition is generally found on the thighs and butt, especially in women. Cellulite has a characteristic 'orange peel' appearance and some refer this to ‘cottage cheese’ too. It affects women but very few men, likely because of the minute difference in the cells’ structure between man and woman.

There are many ways to reduce or to remove cellulite from the body. We have latest technologies that involve radiology and we have certain cellulite pills that are taken internally and contain ingredients that have cellulite-reducing properties. Generally, cellulite pills are the combinations of the herbs that help reducing the fatty layers from the body and can also accelerate the metabolism that again help reducing cellulite conditions. Such herbs are known to restore the enzymes and hormones in the body so that there is a fair digestion and assimilation of the foods and the body does not store calories as fats; instead it utilizes them to gain energy and strength.

The herbal preparation that reduces cellulite is called as cellulite pills. Few of the key ingredients that generally cellulite pills have include Guggulu (Ayurvedic herb), Indian gooseberry, bladder wrack, borage (seed oil), soya lecithin, sweet clover, grape seed, gingko biloba etc. They all are generally used in an extract form so that the pills can be swallowed easily. Generally there is no special vehicle required to take these cellulite pills and one can take them along with simple and plain water.

Some of the naturopaths agree that taking L-tyrosine also gives favorable results reducing the fatty layers from the body and hence, pills containing L-tyrosine can be taken in order to remove those ugly fatty dimply skins. Taking apple cider vinegar is another effective cellulite reducing remedy. There are many pharmaceutical companies that manufacture apple cider vinegar pills that can be consumed as directed by the physician.

Cellulite is a cosmetic skin problem, which causes an individual’s skin get dimpled look. Cellulite generally starts to accumulate during puberty and as described previously, the most commonly affected body sites are the hips, thighs, buttocks and stomach. Many times, the back of the arms (especially at and around elbows) may also be affected but the condition is more common in obese people.

Nowadays, we have many different pills that help reducing cellulite available readily in the market but they are not generally approved by any medical groups or boards. Though they lack of the researches and authentic documentations, they boom the market since people get benefited with such pills. Clinically, such pills have been prescribed since many years and they are majorly fall under OTC- over the counter products.

Whatever the medications you go for reducing cellulite conditions but it is very important to see physician before taking it. This is because any kind of pills may interact with any other pills. Let it be herbal or natural pills, antihypertensive, oral hypoglycemic drugs, analgesics pills may interact with them and hence, it is to be taken with care. Cellulite reducing pills are also taken carefully depending upon condition of the patient. For instance, pregnant woman should take cellulite reducing pills with caution.

Breast Development

Introduction of the breast development

Breast development is an essential process of reproduction in the human females. Unlike other mammals, in fact, human females are the only ones who develop full sized breast long before they are actually needed to feed their offspring.

Breast development will occur in distinct stages throughout women's life, first before birth and again during adolescence and then during the childbearing ages. Changes in breasts will also occur during menstrual cycles and when a woman reaches menopause (physiological cessation of menstrual cycles).

Beginning of the breast development

The breasts begin to get formed during the fetal development. There, it is just a thickening on the chest area known as the mammary ridge or milk line. By the time a baby girl is born, a nipple and the origins of the milk’s duct system have been formed.

Changes in the breasts continuously go on over the lifespan, with lobes, or small subsections of breast tissue, developing first. Mammary glands will develop later and consist of 15 to 24 lobes. Mammary glands are governed by hormones those are activated during pubescence. Involution or shrinkage of the milk ducts is the final and major change that will occur within the breasts’ tissues. Involution generally begins when the female is around the age of 35.

As a girl reaches adolescence, there will be the first outward sign of breast development begin to appear. When the ovaries (egg producing organs in the females) start to secrete estrogen, fats present in the connective tissue will begin to gather and that will cause the breasts to enlarge. The duct system within the breast will also begin to develop. Generally, the onset of the breast change is also accompanied with the development of pubic hairs and hairs under the arms.

Once the ovulation and menstruation start, the development of the breasts will also begin with the formation of secretory glands at the terminal parts of the milk-ducts. The breasts and duct system will continue to develop and to mature; simultaneously, there is remarkable development of many glands and lobules. The growth rate at which breasts enlarge depends greatly upon an individual’s nourishment, hereditary, health condition and certain medications. It is therefore, the development of the breasts is generally different for each young woman.

The changes in the breasts

In the mature adult breasts, there is a projection of the nipple only. However, in some women the areoles continue to form a secondary mound. As the women advance in their ages, the breasts diminish in their sizes as the milk glands (mammary glands) degrade and become loose. The breasts often become baggier as the breasts’ tissues lose their elasticity and vitality. They lack of the freshness and energy. Moreover, due to past pregnancies and breastfeeding the babies, the breasts have been full of milk and fully developed mammary glands that makes gravity to pull the breasts downwards giving them ‘hanging’ appearance.

There are many techniques that can help developing breasts and regaining their size and shapes. Certain medications, massage and cosmetic surgeries can bring dramatic results in firming the breasts.

Libido

Libido can be defined as a simple ‘sexual desire’ but more technically, it is just more than the sexual desire. The definition that we find in the work of Carl Jung is more general that reveals that the libido as the free creative or psychic energy that an individual has to put towards personal development or individualism. The libido was first described in the year of 1833 by Teresa Juncaj that referred to her own life. The term became so popular that nowadays, none is unaware of a word ‘libido’.

The libido can be impaired as this is a kind of mental and physical augmentation that sometimes takes hike and other times gets down and that is why, one may not feel so sexually arouse the way he or she was some other day. The factors that affect the libido in men and women can be both; physical or psychological. Oftentimes, decreased libido is confused with sterility or infertility. It is entirely different since the libido has to do everything with the sexual desire whereas an infertility or sterility is incapability to produce progeny.

The reduction in libido can be caused from psychological causes like lack of privacy and/or intimacy and various other mental factors such as stress, anxiety and depression. Some of the known stressors that can drastically affect the libido include body image issues, stress or fatigue, lack of interest or attraction in sexually active partner, childhood sexual abuse, trauma or negligence. Some of the physical factors that affect libido include altered levels of the hormone testosterone in the bloodstream.

Physical ailments such as obesity, thyroid problems, diabetes, malnourishment, severely underweight and other syndromes can also cause libido in any person. Some of the medications such as SSRIs, hormonal contraception, antidepressants, beta blockers (antihypertensive) etc can also lead to decreased levels of libido as their one of the side effects. It is often seen that once those medications are over, the libido gets restored.

There is no perfect tool that can detect certain ‘amount’ of libido. Neither blood tests nor any radiography can label a person with decreased libido. However, one can surely know about decreased levels of the hormones that can cause low libido but not always. It is therefore, libido is majority detected with physical examinations and questionnaires.

There are various ways to help curing low libido. Many herbs have been prescribed in folk medicinal systems such as Ayurveda, Chinese medicinal system etc. Ayurvedic herbs like Ashwagandha, Kuchala, Guduchi, Aamlaki, Shatavari, and Gokshura are proven as libido enhancers. Some of the naturopaths suggest practicing acupressure and/or acupuncture that can be very useful treating decreased levels of the libido. In modern medicine, pills like ‘Viagra’ has created milestone in treating various male disorders, especially low libido.

Along with internal medications, mental orientation does play important role in overcoming decreased libido. A person should be calmed down and interpreted peacefully preferably with his or her partner about sexual problems that can sort out low libido problem up to major extent.

Over Masturbation

Masturbation - getting acquaintance

Masturbation has always been a controversy among folk medical practitioners and modern health experts. But both the groups agree at one juncture; over masturbation brings hazardous conditions. Many people, to satisfy their sexual urge, masturbate once a day or more than that. Generally, a boy starts masturbating when he feels better between the legs; knowingly or unknowingly. Many times he gets information about this pleasing work by his friends and in other cases, media or literatures.

When to label it ‘over’?

The case to be discussed is over masturbation but then how and when to label it ‘over’? Let us make one thing clear, the complete masturbation is when a man ejaculates and rest is just foreplay where the semen is not expelled out. In that matter, over masturbation is over sex and hence it solely depends upon an individual and his physical endurance. It is difficult to figure it out but normally; more than 10 times a week can be considered as over masturbation but only if performed over the times.

Inviting difficulties

Over masturbation can bring many things that can weaken the body one or the other way. Many naturopaths and Ayurvedic scholars believe that if you lose too much of semen, you gradually lose vitality. In other case, if you do not masturbate, you store bio-energy in your body and that can help making your organ firmer.

Over masturbation can cause fatigue (feeling tired all the time) and stress. It can also produce soft or weak erection and the penis may get curved. There might be testicular pain and you may get eye floaters or see blurred vision in most advanced stage. Pain or cramp in the pelvic cavity and/or tail bone is commonly experienced by over masturbator.

If we look further, over masturbation can shake up your concentration and alter the brain’s chemistry. One of the most threatening effect it can bring is it can drain acetylcholine and hence, over doing it can drain motor neurons and neuro-muscular endings. Some of the widely accepted symptoms due to over masturbation are absentmindedness, lack of concentration, general debility, faster heartbeats, memory loss and thinning hair or hair loss.

Over masturbation and over sexual intercourses with ejaculation can also stimulate acetylcholine and/or parasympathetic nervous systems and its functions and it results into over production of the sex hormones and neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin etc. that in turn, bring other health ailments. Masturbating in excess can over stimulate adrenal glands and the brain and hence the entire body chemistry gets affected. It then involves every system of the body especially uro-genital system that affects urination and sometimes even defecation.

Overcoming the problem

Prevention is better than the cure – this goes true here too! Stop masturbation and concentration on other work. This can easily be achieved by meditation and Yoga practice. Clinical trials and researches say that Yoga restores the hormones and vitality of the body that helps to regain the strength that is lost due to habit and furthermore, meditation provides you ability to be firm in decisions quitting bad habit. You should avoid looking at arousing pictures and also keep away from such literatures. Involve yourself in work and if possible, avoid being alone.
